The old heritage and traditions associated with Holland are widely vivid in the mind of many tourists. From clogs to round cheese, discover this world with our tour to the region of North Holland and fi nd that these traditions are still very much alive. We visit the peninsula between the North Sea and the great Dutch inland sea, the Ijsselmeer, a land of charming old fishing villages and towns . We see people in traditional costumes and clogs and visit producers of huge rounds of Gouda and Edam cheese. A trip into the past of old world Holland provides a highly att racti ve and fun programme.

Tour Highlights:
  • Marken, Volendam and AlkmaarFull Day
    Morning visit to the ancient fishing village of Marken built on wooden piles on a former island, where locals still wear traditional costumes. Take a cruise to on the Ijsselmeer up to Volendam, famous for its fisherman's houses, tiny canals and draw bridges and many craft shops. (Alternative boat trip available from the Hotel Purmerend in Purmerend to Edam.) Travel this afternoon to Alkmaar, a historic town with many old gabled houses and canals. Visit the folk or cheese museums. Return to hotel.
  • Zaandam and AmsterdamFull Day
    Make a visit to the Zaanse Schaans open-air living museum in Zaandam with 17th century working windmills, traditional houses, pewterers, bakers and a number of indoor museums. Continue into Amsterdam for the rest of the day. Take a cruise or tour some of the many sights (pre-book one of the exciting ICT optional ideas).
  • Noord Holland region and the Ijsselmeer Inland SeaFull Day
    A very special day out travelling first to the lovely old town of Hoorn to board the steam train to Medemblik, crossing countless bulbfields in season. From Medemblik, board a special cruise boat for a trip on the Ijsselmeer inland sea to the Zuiderzee open air museum, with houses, shops historic ships and much more depicting life in a Dutch harbour town over the past seven centuries.
  • Cheese and Clogs towards UKFull Day
    We visit the traditional Irene Hoeve Cheese and Clog makers for a tour, seeing the cheese making process and clogs being actually carved out before a tasting and a chance to buy the produce including local drinks. We then retrace our steps for our return sea crossing to the UK.
